A Replacement should be before the end of the stated life of the battery to avoid sudden stopping of the watch.

Q "Is it true using the light in a watch will affect the life of the battery?"

A Yes. A large current is used to turn on the light. Frequent use will shorten the life of the battery. A high drain of battery is required for watches having additional features such as alarm or illumination lamp.
